Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary for the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin
Dmitry Sergeevich Peskov was born on October 17, 1967 in Moscow. In 1989 he graduated the Institute of Asian and African Countries with a diploma in oriental history, a reference-translator.
After graduation, he worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1990 to 1994 and from 1996 to 2000, Dmitry Peskov held various positions at the USSR Embassy, then at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Turkey. Peskov has evolved from a simple service assistant to the first secretary of the Embassy.
Dmitry Peskov left the diplomatic service in 2000, when he was appointed head of the media relations department of the presidential administration’s press service, that is, after Vladimir Putin was appointed head of state of the Russian Federation. Peskov became Putin’s press secretary in 2008.
In 2015, the spokesperson was at the center of a scandal for a RM 52-01 Turbillon watch he wore at his wedding to Olympic champion Tatyana Navka. According to Alexey Navalny, these watches cost 620 thousand dollars (about 37 million rubles), which at that time amounted to four annual salaries of Peskov. According to the statement for 2014, the revenue of the head of the Kremlin press service amounted to 9 million rubles. In response, he said the watch is the wife’s wedding gift, “but it costs much less than the companions indicate.”
Peskov did not fall under EU and US sanctions, unlike many representatives of the closest circle of the Russian president, so he went to the West several times.
President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman strongly rejects the possibility of discussing the annexation of Crimea.
“The subject of Crimea is not discussed, this subject is closed once and forever. (…) The word “occupation” or “annexation” is absolutely neither de facto not de jure … Everything that happened in Crimea was strictly in accordance with the laws of Ukraine and based on international law, “commented Dmitry Peskov in response to Vladimir Zelensky’s statements regarding the return of the territories and compensation for losses.
Speaking about Moldova, Peskov argues that Moscow does not interfere in the internal affairs of our country. “We cannot intervene in Moldova’s internal affairs and we do not want to do that. We want everything that happens there to be in conformity with the Moldovan law and everything to be in real accordance with the spirit and letter of the law, “said Peskov, commenting on the next confrontation between President Igor Dodon and the previous alliance.
This statement contradicts the Kremlin’s policy of maintaining a military presence in Moldova, contrary to the UN resolution and the demands of the Chisinau authorities, as well as the support of the Moldovan socialists and their leader, Igor Dodon.
By the way, the president of Moldova, in unison with the representatives of the Russian authorities, condemned the United Nations resolution. “Several officials in the country, as well as their foreign employers, started a cheap PR campaign using the UN platform, which aims exclusively at exacerbating the situation in the Republic of Moldova and causing serious damage to the Moldovan-Russian relations”, the head of state wrote on his Facebook page.
