Igor Caldare was born on May 18, 1964 in Chisinau. He is a civic activist, member of the initiative group of the Moldovan Civic Congress. He has worked as an expert at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, in the field of scientific projects and their technical and economic evaluation.
Igor Caldare held the position of director of the Institute for Standardization and Metrology (2009-2010) but he was suspended from office, being blamed by the Anticorruption Center officers for damaging the institution with over one million and a half lei. Subsequently, the prosecution was closed.
In 2012, he competed for the position of member of The National Integrity Commision, but was not admitted to all stages of contest. In 2015 he was officially appointed candidate of the electoral bloc “Nation’s list” for the position of general mayor. The election was won by Dorin Chirtoaca.
