The Russian military intervention in Ukraine

The Russian military intervention in Ukraine began on February 24, 2014, as a result of the pro-European Ukrainian Revolution, which resulted with a coup, when special Russian troops without insignia seized the Crimean peninsula of Ukraine, located on the north coast of the Black Sea, including civilian buildings, airports and military bases. On the same day, the Duma of the Russian Federation approved the presence of the Russian military in Crimea and eastern Ukraine. At the same time, Russian officials continued to argue that the presence of Russian military forces in Crimea does not violate any existing agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
