Social media – disinformation tool in electoral campaigns

Content moderation on social media platforms is no longer as easy as moderating content that is nudity and violence, and the right to privacy of users makes it impossible to contextualize the influence and tendency to their disinformation.

In 2018, elections in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and Israel were influenced by social networks, according to an article by the Digital Forensic Research Lab.

According to Nathaniel Gleicher, the manager of the Digital Security Policy at Facebook and former Cybersecurity Director for the US National Security Council, the challenges of disinformation operations and platform governance will become more complex in the next years.

This challenge must to build by a new generation of #DigitalSherlocks equipped with knowledge to identify misinformation campaigns.
