Vasile Tarlev was born on October 9, 1963, in Bascalia vilage, Basarabeasca district. During the years 1997-2000 Tarlev was an active member of several Economic councils of the President and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.

On April 19, 2001 the Parliament of Moldova is giving the vote for the Government lead by Vasile Tarlev as Prime Minister.

Following the parliamentary elections in March 2005 he was elected as MP within the lists of the Communist Party and in April 2005 he received again the support vote for a new term as Prime Minister.

On September 29, 2008 Tarlev was elected leader of the political party Centrist Union of Moldova. In the parliamentary elections of April 2009, his party received only 2.75% of the votes and did not pass the electoral threshold.

In November 2009 Tarlev announced that he is leaving the Centrist Union from Moldova and is withdrawing from politics. Three years later, on September 15, 2012 he was elected as Co-President of the «Renaissance» Party, along with Vadim Mișin.

At the parliamentary elections on November 30, 2014 Tarlev ran for the position of MP on the list of the “Renaissance” Party from the first position on the list, followed by Vadim Mişin and Oleg Babenco. The party accumulated only 0.26% of the votes and did not cross the electoral threshold.

In 2016 Tarlev entered the race for the presidential elections, but the Central Electoral Commission rejected his registration as a candidate because of irregularities and inconsistencies in the submitted documents.

After retiring from politics, Vasile Tarlev became the President of the Council of the International Congress of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (CIIA).

From this position, Tarlev promotes on every occasion the development of trade with the Russian Federation and the attraction of Russian investments in the Republic of Moldova.

In 2018 he was an active participant in the “Moldo-Russian Economic Forum” (September 22-23, 2018) organized in Chisinau by Igor Dodon.

Although he has withdrawn from active politics, Tarlev does not miss the opportunity to expose himself politically against PSRM’s political opponents and to participate in talk shows on PSRM and Igor Dodon’s affiliated TVs and other pro-Russian media.
